Climate Change & Energy Reform

Climate change remains a serious threat to both the current and future generations of Americans and the world. Severe weather systems are causing significantly more damage to towns and cities every, driving up the human cost and the cost to rebuild. The NDP stands for policies that lead to a more sustainable future for our environment and our economy.

Our Solutions

Introduce carbon reduction incentives for industries to meet environmental goals.

Continued development of a carbon market can ensure that the true costs of products are attributed to companies, and that companies have a financial obligation to limit any damage done to the environment.

This kind of need is what creates new industries and innovations. Finding viable and economic solutions through innovation and technological advancement for the benefit of all Americans.

Continued Investment in Renewable Energy

  • Invest in renewable energy, including wind, solar, and next-generation nuclear power.

Expand EV infrastructure and phase out fossil fuel subsidies.

The Big Beautiful Bill has provided more tax subsidies for the coal and preserved the oil industry. At the same time, renewable and EV credits are being phased out. This is despite the fact that coal is no longer economically viable.

Instead of subsidizing oil and gas, it would be in America's best interest to diversify the vehicle energy market. Encouraging and expanding the EV infrastructure market can only give more options for Americans in the vehicle market and provides a shield against sudden shocks in oil prices.

How We Got Here

The Current Climate Condition

Climate change studies have identified that a +3.7 degree (+2.0 degree C) change in our average climate temperature were to become permanent, that climate change damage becomes permanent. Currently, we have seen a +2.7 degree increase so far.

While this temperature change may seem minor, it represents an average. The other key temperature is 32 degrees, the freezing point of water. The increase in average temperature is now thawing areas of the world that never go above this point. Now glacial ice is being melted into liquid water, affecting both the water levels of the oceans and can affect weather patterns for millions of people.
