Democracy needs voices and voters to work. Dictatorships only need silence. Use your voice, help defend democracy, go vote.
It can be daunting to look at the political scene today. There are heaps of disinformation being thrown around, by both social media and mainstream news networks. Most misinformation has a clear bias and or agenda, and the goal is usually to trigger an emotional reaction, therefore invoking a way of thinking that bypasses logic and research. Knowing that is half of the battle in getting engaged in politics. With that said, unbiased news sources exist.
One example would be NewsNation, who claim to be an unbiased news network that operates nationally.
However, some will say that recognizing biases in media is more important than having none. So alternatively, Ground News is a website that labels each article with a clear bias indicator.
Still confused about everything? That’s okay. It’s important to get a baseline and become educated with the American Political system. Here are some good resources for learning about US politics and civics: https://www.usa.gov/about-the-us https://www.loc.gov/search/?q=American%20History&sp=1&st=list https://www.pbs.org/show/crash-course-government-and-politics/
Those should be enough resources to get you pointed in the right direction with being informed. Keep in mind there are some great YouTube videos on the subject out there. Wikipedia is also your friend.
