In this age of information and misinformation, its easy to get overwhelmed by every single problem the United States is facing. And with our 24 hour news cycle, every problem feels can feel like a crushing weight that is burdening all of us at all times.
This constant stress and trauma is limiting our ability to think rationally, and its causing us to react emotionally to events at a societal level. The emotional response to all of this is to just make the pain go away as soon as possible. And some of the messaging out there is designed to focus this emotional trauma to enact changes and influence your election choices.
The Office of the Presidency is the face of everything for Americans. Its easy to praise or blame this one position for everything America is going through.
The problem is there are very few issues that the President directly impacts. This can be acutely true for the economy. In a free market capitalist economy, there are few levers that the President can actually pull to improve things. And yet, the President is usually the first to be blamed when something goes wrong.
Choosing leaders based on results that they don't directly control is a dangerous method. Changing leaders simply based on results and not based on new policies is dangerous.
We can no longer afford the thinking that if the person or party in power changes, things will get better. The next person or party can always make things worse.
We the voters have to understand precisely how much power the people we are electing actually have, and then evaluate the policies and changes they actually intend to enact.
